An established and employee-owned civil engineering consultancy is expanding its Infrastructure team due to sustained growth and increasing workload. They are seeking Senior Engineers with a consultancy background who specialise in highways design, drainage design, or both, and who are comfortable working across multidisciplinary development projects.
This opportunity suits engineers who enjoy technical ownership, client-facing work, and mentoring junior staff, while contributing to the delivery of high-quality infrastructure solutions across the public and private sectors.
The Role
Depending on your background and strengths, you will work on highways, drainage, or integrated infrastructure schemes, supporting projects from early feasibility and planning through to detailed design and construction.
You will be involved in project delivery, technical design, client coordination and supporting junior engineers, with scope to broaden your skillset where desired.
Typical responsibilities may include:
Leading or contributing to highway and/or drainage design packages
Preparing and reviewing technical reports, drawings and design outputs
Delivering projects in line with agreed budgets, programmes and standards
Supporting fee proposals and ongoing project management
Liaising with clients, local authorities, statutory bodies and contractors
Attending client and design team meetings
Guiding, supporting and mentoring junior team members
Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment
Relevant Highways and / or Drainage Experience May Include:
Design of adoptable highways and infrastructure, including Section 38 and Section 278 schemes
Design of residential estate roads, commercial and industrial access arrangements
Junction layouts, vehicle tracking and access design in line with current standards
Highway and drainage design in accordance with DMRB, Local Authority standards and guidance
Drainage design from feasibility through to detailed design, including on-plot and highway drainage
Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies and technical drainage notes
SuDS design including ponds, basins, tanks, swales and rain gardens
Section 104 / 106 / 185 drainage designs and approval processes
Design to CIRIA guidance, Sewerage Sector Guidance, Building Regulations and local standards
Ground modelling, earthworks and pavement design
Liaison with Local Authorities, National Highways, LLFAs, statutory undertakers and the Environment Agency
Supporting tender and construction phases, including responding to RFIs and technical queries
About You
UK consultancy experience in highways, drainage or both
Proficient with AutoCAD (essential) and Civil 3D
Experience with InfoDrainage and/or Site3D is advantageous
Strong understanding of relevant design standards and guidance
Confident communicator with good written and verbal skills
Able to manage multiple projects and priorities
Comfortable in a client-facing role
Chartered or working towards Chartership is welcomed, but not essential
