Principal Electrical Engineer - Building Services
Bristol (Hybrid Working Available)

I'm currently working with a well-established building services engineering consultancy based in Bristol that is looking to appoint a Principal Electrical Engineer to play a key leadership role within its growing team.

This consultancy has been delivering innovative mechanical and electrical design solutions for over three decades, supporting clients across a wide range of sectors including education, healthcare, commercial, residential, leisure, and industrial developments. Their engineers work closely with architects, developers and contractors to deliver high-quality, sustainable building services solutions from concept through to completion.
The business has built a strong reputation for its energy-efficient and sustainable engineering approach, offering expertise across low-carbon technologies, electrical infrastructure, lighting design, building performance, and environmental systems.

With a diverse portfolio of projects across the South West - from major education and healthcare developments to complex refurbishment and commercial schemes - this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants to take on a strategic technical leadership role while helping shape the growth of the electrical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for electrical building services design across multiple projects
  • Lead projects from concept design through to construction and completion
  • Develop and oversee electrical designs including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, data and specialist systems
  • Act as a senior technical authority, reviewing and approving design work across the team
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, representing the business in meetings and project discussions
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Manage project resources, programmes and technical quality across multiple schemes
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technicians, supporting the growth of the team
  • Contribute to business development, bid preparation and strategic growth of the electrical discipline

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy environment
  • Proven ability to lead projects and manage multidisciplinary design teams
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK regulations, British Standards and industry best practice
  • Experience with design tools such as Amtech, Dialux/Relux or similar
  • Familiarity with BIM and Revit environments
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage clients and lead project meetings
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership would be highly desirable

Why Apply?

  • Opportunity to take a senior leadership role within a respected consultancy
  • Work on a diverse portfolio of technically challenging projects
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Opportunity to shape the growth of the electrical discipline within the business
