An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Electrical Building Services Engineer to join a well-established, award-winning building services consultancy based in Stockport.
This respected consultancy has built a strong reputation for delivering innovative, sustainable MEP design and works with high-profile clients across sectors including healthcare, education, commercial and public sector developments. The business is particularly recognised for its expertise in net zero and low-carbon building design, supported by advanced modelling and engineering software.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of projects, they are now looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their senior team and play a key role in delivering technically complex and meaningful projects.
The Role
As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will lead the electrical design and delivery of projects ranging from smaller specialist schemes through to major developments valued at £100m+.
You will work closely with clients, manage multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the ongoing growth of the business.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the electrical design and delivery of projects across healthcare, education, commercial and public sector developments
Acting as a client-facing technical lead, managing both commercial and technical discussions
Supporting business development and helping secure new projects
Managing project planning, delivery and resource coordination
Mentoring and developing junior engineers and technicians
Supporting teams on healthcare sector projects, including compliance with HTM and HBN standards where applicable
Coordinating with other engineering disciplines on multidisciplinary projects
Producing detailed designs using IES / IES-VE, AutoCAD, MagiCAD and Revit
Ensuring designs meet energy efficiency and net zero carbon requirements
About You
The successful candidate will have strong experience within building services consultancy and be confident managing projects and client relationships.
You will ideally have:
BEng or MEng in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
Membership of a professional body such as MIET or MCIBSE
Ideally IHEEM membership or experience working on healthcare projects
Knowledge of HTMs and HBNs, or transferable experience from sectors such as laboratories or cleanrooms
Experience delivering new build, refurbishment and retrofit projects
Strong commercial awareness and project management skills
Excellent communication and client-facing ability
