Associate Civil Engineer (Office Civils Lead)

Location: Central Manchester
Contract: Permanent | Full-Time | Hybrid Working

We're working with one of the UK's most progressive and design-led consultancies, who are looking to appoint an Associate Civil Engineer to act as the Office Civils Lead within their Central Manchester team.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Senior Engineer or early-stage Associate who is ready to step into a visible leadership role-taking ownership of civil infrastructure delivery while helping to grow and shape a team around them.

The Opportunity

You'll join a highly respected, development-focused civil engineering practice, delivering and leading infrastructure solutions for a diverse portfolio of high-profile projects, including:

  • Major city-centre office and mixed-use developments

  • Large rural estate and residential schemes

  • Education, cultural, and commercial buildings

Based in a modern Central Manchester office, you'll lead a newly established infrastructure function locally, supported collaboratively by one of the largest and most capable infrastructure teams in the UK. Over time, the team will grow around you, with you acting as the technical authority and problem-solving lead.

Your Role

As Associate Civil Engineer / Office Civils Lead, you'll take project ownership across surface water, foul drainage, and highways design, while mentoring engineers and contributing to the wider direction of the business.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Preliminary and detailed design of surface and foul water drainage systems

  • Hydraulic modelling using InfoDrainage

  • Highways and development infrastructure design

  • Technical oversight and quality assurance

  • Management and mentoring of engineers and technicians

  • Liaison with Water Authorities, LLFAs, and statutory bodies

  • Providing internal and external best-practice guidance

  • Input into bids, fee proposals, and project planning

  • Collaborative working with architects, planners, and fellow engineers

About You

  • UK consultancy background in development-led civil engineering

  • Strong technical grounding in drainage and highways design

  • Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, or Causeway Flow

  • Comfortable taking technical ownership and leading projects

  • Ambitious, collaborative, and keen to influence both projects and company culture

Why Join?

This is a consultancy where personality, creativity, and collaboration genuinely matter. The business is now Employee-Owned, meaning staff have a real voice in how the company evolves, with team representatives feeding directly into the Trust.

Benefits & Package

  • 26 days holiday (23 days + 3-day Christmas shutdown)

  • Bonus of up to 8%, based on individual and company performance

  • Competitive pension scheme

  • Generous maternity and paternity leave

  • Subsidised gym membership

  • Excellent support toward Chartership

  • Annual company trip abroad

  • Flexible hybrid working policy

This is a standout opportunity for a civil engineer ready to step into a leadership role within a highly regarded, people-focused consultancy-offering both autonomy and long-term progression.
