Assistant Health and Safety Consultant / CDM Principal Designer
London

We are working with a major global construction consultancy to recruit an Assistant Health and Safety Consultant and CDM Principal Designer for their London office.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an established team of Health and Safety professionals and support the delivery of services to clients across a range of industry sectors. It will suit someone passionate about developing their career as a Health and Safety Consultant and gaining hands‑on experience as a Principal Designer.

This role offers full supervision and on‑the‑job training. Previous experience is helpful but not essential. A Health and Safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH Construction Certificate, is desirable.

The role is primarily office‑based, with some travel to client offices and construction sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in collecting and collating pre‑construction information as part of the Principal Designer duties.

  • Support the compilation of the Pre‑Construction Information document.

  • Attend design team, client, and project progress meetings in support of senior Health and Safety Consultants.

  • Help integrate health and safety principles into early project planning.

  • Support the preparation and review of Health and Safety Files.

  • Assist with F10 notifications to the HSE.

  • Support the Principal Designer with planning, managing, and monitoring health and safety during the pre‑construction phase.

  • Support the development and review of risk registers and designer risk assessments.

  • Visit sites during pre‑construction to collect relevant Health and Safety information.

  • Attend construction sites to support inspections and audits alongside experienced Health and Safety Consultants.

  • Support designers and duty holders in meeting their CDM responsibilities.

  • Assist in providing compliance information and CDM guidance.

  • Work alongside in‑house designers, project managers, Health and Safety Consultants, and external consultants.

Keys Skills

The right person could come from a range of backgrounds, such as:

  • A Health and Safety professional looking to expand their project experience and grow into a Principal Designer role across new sectors.

  • A Forces veteran seeking a civilian position where transferable skills such as leadership, risk awareness, and operational discipline align well with Health and Safety Consultant work.

  • A newly qualified NEBOSH professional looking for a first step into the industry with clear progression toward becoming a Health and Safety Consultant and Principal Designer.

You will also bring:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A proactive attitude and a willingness to learn.

  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • A genuine interest in construction and the built environment.

  • Experience in report writing and producing clear documentation.
