Senior Flood Modeller / Water Engineer

I'm currently working with a highly respected engineering consultancy that specialises in delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions from early planning through to full project implementation. They have an excellent reputation within flood risk, drainage and water management, and due to continued growth they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Flood Modeller / Water Engineer to join their established Water Team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative and technically strong team working across both public and private sector projects throughout the UK, including residential, commercial, retail, industrial and public infrastructure developments.

The Role

You will play a key role in delivering flood alleviation, surface water management and drainage projects from concept through to construction. The position will involve both technical delivery and team leadership responsibilities, with strong client interaction.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing river modelling and hydrological analysis to support scheme design

  • Producing and reviewing Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies

  • Leading the conceptual and detailed design of flood protection measures

  • Managing and mentoring a small team of modellers and engineers

  • Supporting and preparing fee proposals and project documentation

  • Overseeing multiple projects and client accounts simultaneously

  • Contributing to planning applications and construction design packages

What They're Looking For

Candidates will typically have 5-8+ years' experience within flood risk, drainage or water engineering and will be comfortable managing projects and supporting junior team members.
You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline

  • Chartered status (CEng MICE / CIWEM) or working towards chartership

  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder engagement experience

  • Proven experience delivering flood mitigation and drainage design from concept through to detailed design

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Technical Experience Required

  • Strong experience with Flood Modeller / TUFLOW

  • Working knowledge of InfoWorks ICM

  • Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies

  • Experience in surface water management and flood mitigation design

  • GIS experience using MapInfo and/or QGIS

The following would be advantageous but not essential:

  • Sewer design using WinDES / InfoDrain / FLOW or similar

  • Knowledge of Design & Construction Guidance and drainage standards

Additional Experience

  • Strong project and client management capability

  • Commercial awareness and experience managing project budgets

  • Knowledge of relevant policy and legislation including:

    • NPPF

    • Flood & Water Management Act 2010

    • Water Industry Act 1991

    • S104 Agreements

Background

This role would suit someone currently working within an engineering consultancy or public sector organisation with strong exposure to flood risk and drainage projects.

If you're looking to take the next step in your career with a business that offers technically interesting projects, genuine progression opportunities and a supportive team environment, I'd be very interested in speaking with you.
