Are you looking to spearhead a nationally significant infrastructure project?

An experienced and commercially astute Project Director with a strong infrastructure background is required to lead the successful delivery of a major infrastructure and structural engineering project in Plymouth. This senior leadership role will oversee large-scale civil engineering packages including substructures, reinforced concrete frames, complex temporary works, and associated infrastructure works.

The Project Director will be accountable for project performance across safety, programme, commercial outcomes, quality, and client satisfaction while leading high-performing project teams.

Key Responsibilities


Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide strategic leadership across heavy civils and structural packages.
  • Set clear delivery objectives aligned with company and client expectations.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams including Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial Managers, and Site Teams.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, and accountability.

Project Delivery

  • Take full P&L responsibility for allocated projects.
  • Ensure delivery to programme, budget, and specification.
  • Oversee construction methodologies for complex civil and structural works.
  • Manage risk identification, mitigation strategies, and change control processes.
  • Drive programme certainty and recovery strategies where required.

Commercial & Contractual Management

  • Maintain strong commercial control in collaboration with the commercial team.
  • Lead client negotiations on variations, claims, and final accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with contract conditions (NEC).
  • Protect and enhance project margin through proactive management.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary senior point of contact for clients and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain long-term client relationships.
  • Represent the business in progress meetings, executive briefings, and industry forums.

Health, Safety & Quality

  • Champion a safety-first culture aligned with company and statutory standards.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and all HSEQ policies.
  • Lead incident investigations and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Requirements

  • Extensive experience delivering heavy civil engineering and reinforced concrete structures.
  • Proven track record in a Project Director or Senior Project Manager role on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing multi-million-pound civils projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability across large project teams.
  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Chartered status (CEng / MICE) desirable.

Desirable Experience

  • Major infrastructure projects).
  • Complex temporary works and engineering-led construction solutions.
  • Experience within Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractors.
