Principal Transport Planner

Location: Leeds
Type: Full-Time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week)
Working Pattern: Hybrid

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join a highly respected, employee-owned engineering consultancy in Leeds.

This is a genuine leadership opportunity. The consultancy is open to candidates currently operating at Senior level who are ready to step up, take legitimate ownership of a team, and play a key role in shaping the future direction of the transport planning function in Leeds.

The northern transport planning team is delivering some of the most significant and high-profile development projects across the North of England.

The Role

You will take a leading role in delivering transport planning projects across a diverse development portfolio, while managing client relationships and supporting the growth and development of junior team members.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and reviewing Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and transport chapters of Environmental Statements

  • Leading projects and managing multiple workstreams

  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients, planners, architects and contractors

  • Providing strategic input into site access designs and masterplanning across all modes of transport

  • Managing project resources and contributing to financial performance

  • Supporting and mentoring Transport Planners and Graduates

  • Undertaking data analysis and junction modelling using software such as JUNCTIONS and LinSig

  • Contributing to design reviews and undertaking basic design work using AutoCAD (or equivalent)

  • Ensuring compliance with Quality Management System processes

This role requires someone who is motivated, collaborative and commercially aware - capable of leading projects while helping to foster a strong team culture within the wider Leeds office.

About You

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a relevant degree (or equivalent) and be working towards or have achieved professional qualification

  • Have significant experience within a transport planning consultancy environment

  • Be confident managing client expectations and leading project meetings

  • Demonstrate commercial awareness and an understanding of project finances

  • Be numerate and comfortable analysing datasets

  • Have experience with junction modelling software (JUNCTIONS, LinSig or equivalent)

  • Understand current design standards and approval processes
