Role: Senior Highway Design Engineer
Type: Contract, PAYE Umbrella
Rate: Up to £40 per hour
Location: Watford (2 or 3 days office attendance required per week).
Duration: Three month rolling contract. Temp-to-perm options available thereafter.

Summary:

A Senior Highways Design Engineer is required for temporary assignment to a Tier one contractor, with two days' visit a week required to their Watford office.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake designs, drawings, specifications and supporting technical reports and other technical output to achieve project outcomes.

  • Undertake site visits, surveys, and investigations.

  • Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.

  • Maintain and increase knowledge of Standards & Codes of Practice.

  • Participate in CPD activities to ensure skills remain relevant.

  • Plan and manage delivery of projects to agreed time and cost

  • Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with internal quality

  • standards and processes.

  • Work collaboratively with customers to understand and develop project objectives and to build excellent customer relationships


Ideal Contractor Profile - Please apply even if you do not meet this:

  • A BSc, BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering / Highway / Transportation or similar discipline.

  • Chartered Engineer with ICE or CIHT.

  • Experience in design and construction activities within the highway sector including drainage, pavement, and alignment design.

  • Experience with S38, S278 works.

  • In-depth Knowledge of Highways England standards such as the DMRB and MCHW and other relevant design standards

  • Working knowledge of software design tools including Key Lines, Key Signs, Civils 3D, AutoCAD, Micro Drainage as appropriate.

  • Proven track record for the delivery of highways designs, planning, direct & control tasks, people & resources to meet project deadlines and financial targets

  • An ability to lead teams & develop staff to meet technical & managerial needs.

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
