Building Regulations Principal Designer

About the Role

I am working with a leading consultancy that is seeking an experienced and proactive Building Regulations Principal Designer to join their growing team. This is a key position offering the opportunity to make a real impact across a diverse portfolio of projects.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast‑paced consultancy environment, feel comfortable juggling multiple projects, and be driven to influence best practice and deliver exceptional outcomes for clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of Principal Designer duties under the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated regulations.

  • Coordinate design risk management activities throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Provide specialist advice on Building Regulations compliance, collaborating closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Review and guide design proposals to ensure safety, regulatory adherence, and quality.

  • Prepare and manage key documentation including design risk registers, pre‑construction information, and compliance reports.

  • Attend client meetings, design workshops, and site inspections as needed.

  • Contribute to internal process improvements and best‑practice initiatives.

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with project teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Principal Designer, Building Control, Building Regulations, or similar design‑safety role.

  • Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, Approved Documents, and the Building Safety Act.

  • Professionally qualified in construction, architecture, engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Confident managing multiple concurrent projects in a consultancy environment.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset with high attention to detail.
