We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering groundworks, high-quality external works and civil engineering schemes.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured and upcoming projects, they are looking to appoint an experienced Bid Manager to take ownership of key tenders and play a central role in securing future work to continue this success.

The Role

As Bid Manager, you will lead the coordination, preparation and submission of competitive tenders for external works civils and groundworks projects.

You will work closely with estimating, planning and senior leadership teams to shape winning strategies and ensure submissions are technically robust, commercially sound and aligned with delivery capability.

This is a hands-on, technically detailed role suited to someone who genuinely understands site operations and complex civils packages.

What You'll Be Involved In

You will manage bids covering schemes that may include:

  • Complex cranage logistics

  • Detailed traffic management strategies

  • Temporary works solutions (trenching, scaffolding, working at height)

  • Design coordination and responsibility elements

  • BIM requirements

  • NEC, JCT and trade contract environments

You'll be responsible for interpreting tender documents, identifying key risks and opportunities, and shaping a clear, coherent submission strategy that positions the business strongly.

Technical Exposure

Projects typically involve a mix of:

  • In-situ reinforced concrete structures (including retaining walls and bases)

  • Excavation and formation works

  • Structural build-ups and sub-base installations (including Type 1)

  • Stone cladding and paving

  • High-spec installations

  • Tarmac and specialist surface finishes

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the bid process from document download through to final submission

  • Coordinate input from estimating, planning and technical teams

  • Develop clear win strategies alongside operational leaders

  • Prepare technical narratives and methodology responses

  • Identify programme, logistics and risk considerations

  • Ensure smooth handover to delivery teams upon award

Success in this role will be measured by the quality, consistency and value of work secured, and your contribution to a structured and professional work-winning function.

Who This Would Suit

This role would particularly suit someone with:

  • A background in on-site civil engineering

  • Experience in external works, groundworks or landscaping.

  • A strong understanding of buildability and construction sequencing

You may currently be working in estimating, pre-construction, project engineering or site management and looking to transition fully into a bid-focused role - or already operating as a Bid Manager seeking broader project exposure.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Exposure to technically challenging, design-led external works schemes

  • Genuine collaboration between pre-construction and delivery teams

  • A visible role within a growing and ambitious contractor
