Associate Electrical Engineer - Building Services
Birmingham

We are working with a leading, design-focused building services consultancy that is entering an exciting period of expansion in Birmingham. With ambitious plans to grow the local office, they are seeking a driven Electrical Associate to work closely with the Birmingham leadership team. This is a pivotal role for someone who wants to combine technical excellence with leadership, project delivery, and client relationship management.

This is a high-impact role where you will be part of shaping the future of a growing office, contributing to project work winning, team development, and maintaining the highest technical standards.

The Opportunity

As an Electrical Associate, you will:

  • Take a leadership role in project delivery, from initial feasibility and design through to completion

  • Act as a key client liaison and provide technical advice, ensuring client requirements are fully met

  • Support office growth through recruitment, mentoring, and development of the electrical engineering team

  • Oversee multiple projects, distributing workload effectively and ensuring delivery to time, cost, and quality standards

  • Contribute to business development initiatives and repeat work winning, working alongside the leadership team

  • Maintain and improve internal processes and ensure compliance with ISO, quality, and safety standards

  • Prepare design calculations, technical specifications, sketches, schedules, and bills of quantities

  • Assist in financial control, including project valuations and resource planning

  • Represent the consultancy externally in meetings and presentations

You will also have scope to contribute ideas and initiatives to improve efficiency, drive quality, and strengthen the office's reputation, making this a true leadership role with tangible impact.

What They're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:

  • A BEng (Hons) in Electrical or Building Services Engineering

  • Chartered status, or actively working towards it in the near future with CIBSE or Institution of Engineering and Technology

  • Proven experience at Associate level in a consultancy environment

  • Strong project management skills and ability to mentor and develop junior staff

  • Technical competence across AMTECH / HEVACOMP / Mepworx, DIALUX / RELUX, and proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Word, and Excel

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present and justify design solutions to clients

  • A proactive, ambitious mindset with strong team ethic and the ability to work independently

Desirable experience includes knowledge of mechanical and public health services, sustainability, and energy or thermal modelling.
