Associate Electrical Engineer - Building Services

We are working with a leading, design-focused building services consultancy that is entering an exciting period of expansion in Birmingham. With ambitious plans to grow the local office, they are seeking a driven Electrical Associate to work closely with the Birmingham leadership team. This is a pivotal role for someone who wants to combine technical excellence with leadership, project delivery, and client relationship management.

The Opportunity
As an Electrical Associate, you will:
Take a leadership role in project delivery, from initial feasibility and design through to completion
Act as a key client liaison and provide technical advice, ensuring client requirements are fully met
Support office growth through recruitment, mentoring, and development of the electrical engineering team
Oversee multiple projects, distributing workload effectively and ensuring delivery to time, cost, and quality standards
Contribute to business development initiatives and repeat work winning, working alongside the leadership team
Maintain and improve internal processes and ensure compliance with ISO, quality, and safety standards
Prepare design calculations, technical specifications, sketches, schedules, and bills of quantities
Assist in financial control, including project valuations and resource planning
Represent the consultancy externally in meetings and presentations
You will also have scope to contribute ideas and initiatives to improve efficiency, drive quality, and strengthen the office's reputation, making this a true leadership role with tangible impact.
What They're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
A BEng (Hons) in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
Chartered status, or actively working towards it in the near future with CIBSE or Institution of Engineering and Technology
Proven experience at Associate level in a consultancy environment
Strong project management skills and ability to mentor and develop junior staff
Technical competence across AMTECH / HEVACOMP / Mepworx, DIALUX / RELUX, and proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Word, and Excel
Excellent communication skills and the ability to present and justify design solutions to clients
A proactive, ambitious mindset with strong team ethic and the ability to work independently
Desirable experience includes knowledge of mechanical and public health services, sustainability, and energy or thermal modelling.
