We are working with an established, multi-disciplinary built environment consultancy seeking an Associate Civil Engineer to join their Manchester office. This is a senior leadership opportunity within a technically strong civil engineering team delivering building-related infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of sectors including automotive (Formula 1), advanced manufacturing, airports and defence.

This role combines technical leadership, project delivery, commercial oversight and team development, offering the opportunity to influence both regional growth and technical standards.

About the Role

As an Associate Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in leading project teams and overseeing the technical and commercial delivery of civil engineering schemes. You will work across flood risk, drainage, highways and earthworks, ensuring high-quality, sustainable design solutions.

You will act as a key client contact, contribute to business development activity, and mentor junior engineers to support their professional growth, while maintaining a strong focus on quality and process compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Provide technical oversight, reviewing and checking civil engineering design outputs across multiple project types.

Lead major projects with a client-focused approach to design and delivery.

Manage project finances including forecasting, fee control, invoicing and commercial performance.

Act as a senior point of contact for clients, building and maintaining long-term relationships.

Mentor and support junior engineers in their technical and professional development.

Contribute to business development activities including repeat work, following up leads and supporting bids and submissions.

Ensure quality management systems and appropriate technical processes are implemented and maintained across the team.

Oversee infrastructure design including flood risk assessments, drainage strategies, highways and access design, and earthworks coordination.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum of 10 years' post-qualification experience in civil or infrastructure engineering.

Chartered status (CEng / IEng) or close to achieving it.

Proven track record of managing projects and leading teams within a consultancy environment.

Strong technical capability in flood risk, drainage, highways and earthworks design.

Commercial awareness with experience managing project financial performance.

Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
