Associate / Director - Building Surveying & Rights to Light
London
Construction & Property Consultancy
Salary up to £100,000 + benefits

A highly respected and rapidly expanding London-based construction consultancy is seeking a director-level Building Surveyor with strong Rights to Light expertise to play a pivotal role in the continued growth of its surveying and advisory services.

This is a senior strategic appointment, ideal for an experienced professional operating at Associate Director or Director level, or someone ready to step up, who is looking for genuine influence, autonomy, and the opportunity to shape a specialist service line within a progressive consultancy.

The firm advises on high-quality residential and commercial developments and is known for its technical excellence, commercially astute advice, and long-standing client relationships across the London market.

The Role
This position sits firmly at Director level, combining technical leadership with strategic input and client-facing responsibility. While the role remains hands-on, the emphasis is on leading complex Rights to Light instructions, developing client relationships, mentoring the team, and contributing to the wider growth of the London office.
You will take ownership of key client accounts, oversee high-value and sensitive instructions, and act as a senior figure in both Rights to Light and general building surveying matters, working closely with other directors and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver Rights to Light advisory services, including assessments, negotiations, and strategic advice for development-led schemes
  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients on complex and high-profile instructions
  • Provide expert building surveying advice across residential and commercial property
  • Lead Party Wall matters where required, acting under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996
  • Oversee dilapidations, defect analysis, and refurbishment projects
  • Fulfil the role of Contract Administrator on larger or more complex schemes
  • Manage fees, resourcing, and programme delivery on major instructions
  • Mentor, support, and technically oversee junior and mid-level surveyors
  • Contribute to business development, fee generation, and the strategic growth of the consultancy's Rights to Light and surveying offering

About You

  • MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor
  • Operating at Associate Director or Director level, or demonstrably ready to step up
  • Proven Rights to Light experience
  • Strong background in building surveying within a consultancy environment
  • Confident managing complex client relationships and commercially sensitive advice
  • Comfortable leading teams, managing fees, and contributing to business growth
  • Commercially minded with a collaborative and credible leadership style

What's on Offer

  • Director-level autonomy with real influence over service delivery and growth
  • Opportunity to further develop and shape a Rights to Light and general building surveying offering
  • High-quality workload across prime residential and commercial developments
  • Centrally located London office
  • Supportive, modern consultancy with clear long-term progression

This is a standout opportunity for a senior Building Surveyor or Rights to Light specialist who wants more than just a title - offering real responsibility, strategic input, and the chance to leave a lasting mark on a growing consultancy.
