Senior Civil Engineer
Location: London
Type: Full-time, Permanent
I'm working with a leading, privately owned UK consultancy that's looking to appoint an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join their London team. This opportunity would suit someone with strong experience in civil and infrastructure design within a consultancy environment.
The successful candidate will have the chance to work on a wide variety of projects - from large-scale residential and mixed-use developments to smaller site infrastructure and access schemes - across both public and private sectors.

About the Role
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you'll be responsible for the technical delivery of civil engineering designs across highways, drainage, and site infrastructure projects. You'll work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment, liaising with clients and external stakeholders while supporting and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with architects, clients, and other professionals, representing the consultancy in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Manage projects and provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to less experienced colleagues.
  • Lead and coordinate design teams, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Prepare and review calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports in accordance with company procedures.
  • Undertake design work for roads, drainage, and site access infrastructure, ensuring compliance with relevant UK design standards (DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, etc.).
  • Use design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroDrainage (InfoDrainage) to develop detailed and accurate engineering designs.
  • Undertake site visits to monitor works against design and specifications, reporting findings to the project team or client.
  • Liaise with statutory bodies and local authorities to secure necessary technical approvals (e.g. Section 38, Section 278).
  • Prepare supporting technical documentation including Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, and Site Viability Assessments.
  • Represent the company at external meetings and networking events as required.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered, or near Chartered, with a recognised institution (ICE, CIHT, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience delivering highways, drainage, and site infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK design standards and technical approval processes.
  • Proficiency in industry software along the likes of: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PDS, MicroDrainage (InfoDrainage).
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to deadlines.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary and flexible benefits package
  • Comprehensive training opportunities and professional fee reimbursement
  • ICE-approved training scheme with support toward chartership
  • Contributory pension, private healthcare plan, and life insurance
  • Interest-free travel loan
  • 33 days' annual leave (inclusive of public holidays)
  • Annual leave purchase and buy-back scheme
  • Bonus schemes including loyalty and qualification awards

If you're a civil engineer with strong experience in roads, drainage, and infrastructure design, and you're looking to join a forward-thinking, multidisciplinary consultancy in London, this could be the ideal opportunity.
