An experienced and detail-driven Planner with a strong infrastructure background is required to support the successful delivery of a major infrastructure and structural engineering project in Plymouth. This is a key project-based role responsible for developing, managing, and monitoring robust programmes across large-scale civil engineering packages, including substructures, reinforced concrete frames, complex temporary works, and associated infrastructure works.
The Planner will be instrumental in driving programme certainty, supporting commercial objectives, and ensuring the project team has clear visibility of progress, risks, and recovery strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Development & Management
- Develop and maintain detailed construction programmes using industry-standard planning software (Primavera P6 or equivalent).
- Produce baseline programmes aligned with contract requirements and project milestones.
- Integrate design, procurement, and construction activities into cohesive delivery plans.
- Ensure programme logic reflects construction methodology and sequencing.
Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor and update progress against baseline programme.
- Identify critical path activities and assess impacts of delays.
- Produce regular progress reports, dashboards, and executive summaries.
- Provide earned value analysis and performance metrics where required.
Risk & Change Management
- Identify programme risks and opportunities, proposing mitigation strategies.
- Support delay analysis, including impact assessments and time entitlement reviews.
- Assist in the preparation of extension of time submissions in accordance with NEC contracts.
- Contribute to change control processes and scenario planning.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Commercial Teams to align programme with delivery strategy.
- Facilitate planning workshops and coordination meetings.
- Liaise with design teams and subcontractors to ensure realistic and achievable schedules.
- Support client-facing reporting and programme presentations.
Commercial & Contractual Awareness
- Ensure programmes are compliant with NEC contract requirements.
- Support commercial teams with programme-related contractual matters.
- Maintain auditable programme records and revisions.
- Protect project margins by proactively identifying recovery opportunities.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Planner or Senior Planner on large-scale civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of heavy civils and reinforced concrete construction methodologies.
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 (or equivalent planning software).
- Experience working under NEC contracts.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex programme data.
- Degree-qualified in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Desirable Experience
- Major infrastructure projects.
- Complex temporary works and engineering-led construction solutions.
- Experience within Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractors.
