I'm currently recruiting for a Highways Engineer to join a well-established civil engineering consultancy based in Northampton. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity within a growing infrastructure team working on a wide variety of residential, commercial and education projects across the UK.
The Role
You'll be supporting senior engineers on the design and delivery of highways and infrastructure schemes-from early concept work through to detailed design. The position offers exposure to roads, drainage, earthworks, and broader civil engineering elements, with involvement across technical design, drawings, calculations, and client liaison.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
Developing design solutions for highways and infrastructure projects
Preparing technical reports, calculations and design documentation
Supporting project coordination, client communication and design delivery
Producing high-quality drawings and models using industry software
Carrying out site visits and surveys
Ensuring designs meet current standards, regulations and health & safety requirements
Collaborating with internal engineering and technical teams
Software Exposure
You'll have the chance to work with leading industry tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage and PDS.
What We're Looking For
Working knowledge of AutoCAD (and ideally other civil design software)
Understanding of civil engineering principles, including highways and drainage design
Strong communication skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Full UK driving licence
A proactive, organised and motivated approach
Familiarity with UK design standards and CDM regulations
